Christopher Columbus Awards Participates in
White House Science Fair

On Monday, October 18th, the 2010 Christopher Columbus Award Grant winning team, Arthritis Magic from Madison, Mississippi, participated in the White House Science Fair as part of the President's "Educate to Innovate" campaign.

The event was arranged to honor all the winners of national science competitions. These winners were asked to attend the event and participate in the President’s speech while a select few were also asked to display their projects. The Arthritis Magic team was invited to do both.

The teams set up their displays in the East Wing of the White House and invited guests were on hand to view and discuss the projects with the team members. Invited guests included Nobel Laureates, TV personalities, Congressional representatives and key administration officials.

The CCA team had the pleasure of presenting their idea to several people including the new Director of the National Science Foundation, Subra Suresh, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of Discovery Channel’s MythBusters and Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway, just to name a few.
