Graduate Studies

The third and final stage of an American postgraduate education is graduate school in the United States (doctoral studies). It is the choice of those who intend to pursue a career in science or teaching. Training lasts from 4 to 6 years, at the end the degree is awarded Doctor of Philosophy – PhD (the name historical, to philosophy as such has nothing to do) or Doctor of Science – ScD.

In many universities it is possible to enter the doctoral program immediately after the bachelor’s degree, bypassing the master’s. In this case the master’s degree is awarded automatically during the study process.
